Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen

Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen was introduced as 2009 model year vehicle and was quite similar to the standard Jetta sedan. When introduced, the similarities between the Sportwagen and sedan were greater, including interior design, chassis tuning, and front-end styling.

2009-10 Jetta Sportwagen

The Jetta sedan was completely re-designed in 2009; hence the first generation Sportwagen received all the features as sedan, including heated washer nozzles, heated seats, stability control, as well as optional navigation system, 30GB hard drive, and touch-screen interface.



2009 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen was offered in S, SE, SEL, and TDI trim levels. The Sportwagen SE and SEL had dual-zone automatic climate control, upgraded speakers, and leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The S and SE trims were powered by a 170 hp 2.5-L five-cylinder engine, while SEL had a 200 hp 2.0-L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Sportwagen TDI utilized the Volk’s clean diesel technology that produced 140 hp and shared the DSG and 6-speed manual transmission choices as the Jetta Wolfsburg edition.

2010 Jetta Sportswagen was offered in 3 trim levels – S, SE, and TDI.

2010 VW Jetta Sportwagen received many of the same changes carried out in the same year to Volkswagen Rabbit and Golf. The interior volume, body shape, drive-train were essentially the same, but Jetta improved the suspension, interior and exterior styling.

2011 Jetta Sportwagen

For 2011, Jetta has slightly improved the fuel economy of base 2.5-L engine. Other notable features added in 2011 Sportswagen are optional six-speed automatic transmission, updated TDI engine, tilt and telescoping steering column.



The EPA-fuel economy ratings of the S and SE trims are 23 mpg in city and 33 mpg on highways, resulting in combined mileage of 26 mpg with manual transmission, while automatic transmission models achieves 24/31/27 mpg.

The EPA-estimated fuel economy of TDI is impressive 30/42/34 mpg with either transmission and can speed up to 0-60 mph in 8.9 seconds.

Pricing

The base price of 2009 Jetta Sportwagen was tagged at $16,094 and in 2010 the MSRP went up to $17,365. The MSRP of new 2011 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen starts at $19,995.
